Red Tractor

Red Tractor

Red Tractor assurance standards encompass food safety, animal welfare, environmental protection and traceability. The basic welfare needs of animals must not be compromised at any stage of their lives and farmers must ensure that their farming practices do not damage the environment. Animals need to be identifiable and traceable back to their farms of origin and moved in clean vehicles so that the beef and lamb produced is free from contamination and safe to eat.

West Country Beef PGI

West Country Beef PGI is produced from specially selected animals that have been born, raised and finished on Assured Farms in one of the six counties making up the West Country – Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Gloucestershire, Dorset and Wiltshire. In addition to adopting best practice including animal welfare and natural production methods the cattle must have grazed on at least a 70% forage based diet. The PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) is the legal protection system to guarantee a genuinely authentic product.

Welsh Lamb

Welsh Lamb PGI

This PGI badge of authenticity makes Welsh Lamb very different from other Lamb products. It is a quality that is created from good farming practices performed on one of the best farming environments in Europe. A 1200km coastline provides fresh, sea air to three sides of Wales; a sweep of rich, green landscape rolls back inland, offering mile after mile of hills and mountains where flocks are able to roam and feed on the best that nature can offer. This all reflects in the unique taste and premium quality of Welsh Lamb.

Scotch Beef PGI and Scotch Lamb PGI

Scotch Beef PGI and Scotch Lamb PGI is whole chain assured beef and lamb from Scotland. In a nutshell, Scotch Beef PGI and Scotch Lamb PGI is from specific animals that are sourced from selected Scottish farms, adopting best practice including animal welfare and natural production methods. The PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) is the legal protection system to guarantee a genuinely authentic product.

RSPCA

RSPCA Assured

RSPCA Assured is the RSPCA’s farm assurance and food labelling scheme and is the only UK farm assurance scheme to focus solely on improving the welfare of farm animals reared for food. The scheme covers every stage of a farm animal’s life, each stage governed by strict and compulsory RSPCA welfare standards.

The scheme focuses on the belief that animals reared for food deserve a happy, healthy life. This means providing them with an environment that meets their needs – needs not confined to space, food and water but psychological needs too. So providing a stimulating environment that enables the animals to exhibit their natural behaviour is very important.

Soil Association

Soil Association

All food products labelled as Soil Association organic must meet a strict set of standards.

Organic standards put animal welfare first and organic animals are truly free-range. Organic standards cover their living conditions, diet, and use of antibiotics and hormones, as well as transport and slaughter. Organic farm animals enjoy the very highest welfare standards of any farmed animals.

All organic farms and companies that process organic meat are inspected at least once a year and products are fully traceable. So from farm to fork you know what you’re eating. Closer to nature Organic means working more with nature, not against it. Organic animals must be fed a GM free diet – they graze and forage naturally on organic pasture where only natural fertilisers are used and pesticides are severely restricted.

Our organic products are certified by the Soil Association.
